The Amani Children’s Home
Our journey took us to the beautiful land of Tanzania located in West Africa. The majority of people come to Tanzania to explore the wildlife located in the Serengeti or to try their mental and physical endurance climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.This mountain draws over 40,000 people a year to climb its steep terrain and volcanic peaks. Those that travel to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro arrive in a little city called Moshi, where the people have acclimated to the altitude and the heat from the sun.
Visitors spend time and money to trek to the tallest mountain on one of the world’s most beautiful continents, but what they don't see is the struggle behind the people that live right under the tallest mountain in Africa.Moshi is a beautiful city that provides tourism from around the world to climb Kilimanjaro lending room and board and food to the hikers that visit. Underneath this layer of tourism, Moshi deals with heartbreaking issues, the most prevalent of which is Street Children.What many people do not know about Tanzania that it is a nation where the majority of the people live below the poverty line.
This affects the overall ability for families to provide shelter and comfort for their children.Children within the city of Moshi that do not have a family and roam the streets looking for food and a place to sleep are called “Street Children”. These children can be seen as one walks or drives through the town.
They do what they can to survive - from stealing, sleeping under bridges, to even sniffing glue to fight off the impulses of hunger.the Amani Children’s Home aims to help. The Amani Children’s home located just outside of Moshi is an inspiring and amazing organization. The organization’s mission is to rescue Street Children and give them a place to call home, while also giving them a stable environment in which to learn.
The Amani Children’s Home is a place where kids can find hope and a place to rest their heads. They are given warmth from clothes and from the caring staff that helps get them on their feet.The Amani Children’s Home also acts as a school for Street Children, since most of these children run away from their homes so young, they do not have the chance to receive a proper education. In addition to schooling, Amani Children’s Home provides meals and healthcare for the children.
Their goal is to have children reunited with their families, as well as receive a proper education. They understand that these two key initiatives are the foundational pieces for making sure children have a stable future ahead of them.
